Since its foundation in 1985, IAI (Institut der Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Angewandten Informationsforschung an der Universität des Saarlandes – Institute of the Society for the Promotion of Applied Information Sciences at the Saarland University) has gained an international reputation through its pioneering work in the field of machine processing of written language. First of all, with the development of a specialized version of a machine translation tool (e.g. for medical diagnoses and car repair reports) IAI has succeeded in transferring research results into the world of industry in the form of joint projects and direct contracts.
IAI’s best-known software tools are the utilities for checking the spelling and grammar of text documents. Their linguistic intelligence greatly exceeds that of other systems currently available on the market. Many companies worldwide use tailor-made solutions for terminology, consistency and style checks in order to ensure the linguistic quality of their texts.
Another key development area of IAI is the indexing and classification of the content of text documents and the application of these technologies for market and opinion analyses of internet information (news, groups, forums and blogs). Thus, IAI has not only set new standards in the field of text control but also in automatic document indexing.
Offering a wide range of language technology developments, products and services, IAI is today a qualified partner to industry when it comes to solving problems via the application of language technology and language engineering.
